Welcome to the Ghost Lake Ice Sailing Club Website
Time to rig! . 28-Dec-2007 . stefan.dalberg
The snowpack has finally broken! There are 12 boats on the ice now, and the snow isn't sticking anymore. There are patches of snow across the lake, however that being said, it's totally sailable. Apparently there are cars on the ice now too, so it's plenty thick. Time to rig up and go for a jaunt!
Ack, Snow! . 28-Nov-2007 . stefan.dalberg
Moved the clubhouse a week and a half ago, so all we're waiting for is for the ice to get thick enough. I've had reports of 2 inches at the beginning of the week, so by the weekend, it should be thick enough to go iceboating on. Only concern now is the bleedin snow that just fell. I'll find out if the ice is clear, and post it then.
And yet again! . 15-Nov-2007 . stefan.dalberg
Had our annual meeting on Tuesday and had a good showing. Did all things meeting like, and the trailer will be moved this Sunday at 10AM. Once that's done, all that remains is to await for the ice god to bless us with some cold weather so that the blasted stuff will freeze. Iceboats are almost ready to escape the garage, so we will see you on the ice!

Bummer! . 27-Mar-2007 . stefan.dalberg
Well, it's that time of season yet again. Time to pull off the iceboats. If your boat is on the ice, you are really risking a loss by waiting till this coming weekend. I even heard that people were putting their feet through in some places last weekend, so needless to say... the ice is soft, and we will see you out again next year. Take care and we will see you on the soft stuff.
And still more! . 15-Mar-2007 . stefan.dalberg
More Ice update. Yet again, we have 3 inches of crusty snow back on the ice surface. The previous couple weeks of snow have really ruined any chance of having
clear smooth ice (taken 11-Mar) for the rest of the season. I predict we will be taking the boats off in the beginning of April. It's time to start thinking of soft water anyway.
Still snow! . 26-Feb-2007 . stefan.dalberg
Just an ice update here. There's about
3 to 4 inches of snow on the lake still with larger drifts scattered about. Needless to say we need a bit more warmer weather than we're receiving right now. If it doesn't snow in the next two weeks, it has the potential to be just slightly above shitty. Time will tell.
Ugh, snow! . 21-Feb-2007 . stefan.dalberg
Well so much for full moon sailing last month. Unknown if the snow on the lake has had time to melt completely as of yet, but i'll find out and post some news the moment there is sailable ice. Also, I'm curious as to if anyone out there knows of any local boats for sale? Please email me if you do.
Da Moon! . 29-Jan-2007 . stefan.dalberg
This weekend was great with numerous boats out, and a bunch of spectators as well. Unfortunately everyone missed the wind window which was in the morning before 12. The ice is quite good actually. There are 1 inch deep waterholes which have now skimmed over with ice, but they don't slow you down too much if your going fast.
*Event* We will be trying for a full-moon sail this coming weekend so i'll keep everyone posted with which day we pick. Please let me know if you have a preference for which day. I'm thinking either Friday or Saturday night.
Water! . 25-Jan-2007 . stefan.dalberg
Ice was looking
pretty damn fine yesterday other than being a 'bit' wet. There are minimal drifts, which have been reduced to slush piles thanks to the chinook god. As it gets colder towards the weekend, most of it should disappear which will make for some great sailing on the weekend. See you out there!
Drifts! . 15-Jan-2007 . stefan.dalberg
Don't understand why the snow from the past week hasn't been blown off. And so I regret to say that the lake is cooked for another 2-3 weeks while the chinooks try to sort it out. Large heavy packed drifts which will slowly turn into hard mounds covering the entire surface of the lake. Twas a miserable experience this weekend. Maybe the weekend after next?
Wind! . 10-Jan-2007 . stefan.dalberg
Living in north Calgary, i've come to have an appreciation for non gale force days where I can actually be outside and not have the breath wrenched from my frosty cold lungs. Because I ain't been able to appreciate a day like that so far this year!! Ice is smooth, wind is nuking, so grab your storm sail because Liam blew his main out yesterday.
Check out this trend. Absolutely silly!
Ah the conditions! . 3-Jan-2007 . stefan.dalberg
Beautiful conditions last night for an inpromptu full moon sail! We managed to muster 6 people and 3 boats and had a great time scampering through the 3-4 inch puddles. Oh and then it started to rain, and then snow, and then gust to 20+ knots. We still
managed to get some
decent pictures of the
evening however. And we were all out there till 1 in the morning. *Note* Pics taken with 30 second exposure, compliments of Adam.
Tuesday: Cloudy periods. Wind west 50 km/h gusting to 70 diminishing to 30 late this evening. High plus 11. Wednesday: Sunny. Wind west 30 km/h. High plus 4.
Snow! . 27-Dec-2006 . stefan.dalberg
The ice is MODERATE to FAIR this week. We're now facing the problem of large snowdrifts that have formed into gigantic ice speedbumps. Makes for a bumpy but do-able ride. However, today it is snowing 10 cm, which hopefully blows off leaving the ice we've enjoyed thus far. Time will tell. Updated media page to add another video by yours truly.
Ice Ice! . 4-Dec-2006 . stefan.dalberg
Clubhouse has been moved, placed and is now ready for use. On top of that, there are 10 Inches... 10 INCHES of ice that are uncovered and ready to be used! 3 boats on the ice so far, so let's all get out there and start this season. Long term forcast says no snow, so this should stay with us for at least a while. See you this weekend.
Time to dance! . 20-Nov-2006 . stefan.dalberg
Season is upon us all! Maybe the Ice Gods will deliver this year like they have for seasons past. Prediction is the first weekend in December. In any case, the clubhouse is being moved on the 26th of November, so we are ready for you ice! The commercial that was done back in February has finally been posted to the net, so you can take a look at it under media. Boats are in the garage, ready to be released. Lets hope for a great season! See you on the ice.

Too much Warmth! . 19-Apr-2006 . stefan.dalberg
Well, needless to say, it stayed warm! Our wood bridge doesn't even reach the iceflow now, so the ice is unaccessible (don't think it would be smart to be out on the ice anyway). Season is cooked, so it's time to pack your things, pack the clubhouse, and we will see you next year!!
Warmth! . 3-Apr-2006 . stefan.dalberg
This past week has seen warm temperatures which means soft ice, yet clear ice. However, there is quite a bit of air in the top layer of ice now which does not bode well for the conditions if it continues to stay warm. Get out there while you can!
Payback! . 20-Mar-2006 . stefan.dalberg
Seems that the snow will just not let up for a week or two for us to get some nice clean ice. Almost all of the lake is hardpacked with 1-2 inches now with small hard drifts scattered about. If there was a hefty breeze, a DN 'might' move.
When will it end? . 9-Mar-2006 . stefan.dalberg
10 cm snow cover over the weekend so it is slow going due to the snow being baked by the sun. Hopefully the weatherman is wrong over the next few days regarding more snow, so the ice can have some time to recouperate from this maelstrom of fluffy stuff.
Skating rink! . 1-Mar-2006 . stefan.dalberg
A commercial was shot out at the lake last weekend so even though there is snow cover, there is a
football field sized clearing in the middle of the lake which has immaculate ice. Unfortunately, it is surrounded by snow banks, but they can be avoided.
White stuff again . 19-Feb-2006 . stefan.dalberg
3 to 6 cm snow cover thanks to the weekend, however it is splotchy at best. Starting to get windswepped and crunchy thanks to our low temperatures and lack of strong winds to clean it up. Also, there is no Chinook in the near future. It's going to be slow going for a week or two.
Nuke! . 11-Feb-2006 . stefan.dalberg
Something fierce and warm is coming in today, so it's going to nuke out at ghost. Come out, and best bring your storm sail for a wild ride.
Hmm, snow! . 03-Feb-2006 . stefan.dalberg
Due to the unexpected snowfall on the 1st, there is snow cover on the lake but that won't last long due to the daily warm temperatures. Hope it stays away for a while.
Come on out! . 26-Jan-2006 . stefan.dalberg
Currently we have remarkable conditions with thick and smooth ice. Feel free to come out and play.
